Farcast’s scientific roots trace back to MITra Biotech, founded in 2010 based on research at MIT, to develop human tumor-based approaches for understanding therapeutic response in cancer. Over the following decade, MITra built the foundation that would later become central to Farcast: human tumor microenvironment (TME) culturing technology, laboratory infrastructure, research protocols, and a track record of pharmaceutical studies. The business attracted significant institutional backing, including from Northpond Ventures, Sequoia, Sands Capital, RA Capital, Accel, Tata Capital, and India Innovation Fund, and raised successive financing rounds including a $40 million Series C in 2018.

In 2020, the technology and other related assets were acquired by Farcast Biodynamics (aka Farcast Biosciences LLC a Florida Limited Liability Company), marking the transition from MITra into the organization that would become the current Farcast. The new organization continued developing a substantial base of scientific know-how, clinical-access relationships and accumulated tumor response biology research experience. The result is a scaled tumor data supply chain that integrates patient tumor provisioning, preservation, therapeutic perturbation, multimodal profiling, biological labeling and clinical correlation to produce one of the most unique, proprietary biology datasets in cancer.
